Enrollment at Compass School is open to students throughout the school year but grades can fill quickly, so we encourage interested students to start the enrollment process as early as practical. Families seeking financial aid should submit their information to TADS (see Affording Compass) early on so they can know what to expect for tuition costs.
STEP 1: Initial Inquiry
Send us an email or give us a call and we’ll get the process started with a conversation. A good dialog is the first step to building a strong and successful relationship. In the initial conversation, we’ll review with parents and the student the student’s recent educational experiences, tour the school, and discuss the unique Compass approach to education.
STEP 2: School Day Visit
The best way to get a sense of all we do here is to spend a day with us. This is an important, positive experience for interested students and provides a good sense of school life. Interested students attend classes, lunch, and interact in the community to get a feel for the school. Compass School has a distinctive character and approach to learning that is best understood through this personal experience, and we strongly encourage a full-day visit if possible.
Visits are typically scheduled for Monday through Thursday, but other times can be arranged. Please contact Admissions directly to schedule your visit by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (802) 463-2517.
Parents are welcome to meet with the Admissions Director on the day of the visit or at a separate time. You are also welcome to join us for an Open House or one of the many fun community events hosted at Compass School, like our student film festival, living history museum, or Global Connections Fiesta — check our Facebook page!
STEP 3: Enrollment Forms
Once the student has visited the school and made the decision that it’s a good fit for them, we’ll complete the process with the Enrollment Forms.
Parent Forms: The Parent Enrollment Forms are an opportunity to share important information with the school to deepen our understanding of the student so we can serve them best right from the start.
Student Forms: We ask students to think about how they learn, what challenges they might face as a student, and in what type of environment they feel they would flourish. Students are encouraged to have fun with the enrollment submissions and consider writing, works of art, or other projects they feel represent them best.
STEP 4: Enrollment Review
Once all materials have been received and a school visit completed, we’ll review everything and ask for any additional information needed to ensure Compass is the best fit. In the case of existing IEP plans, additional meetings with our Student Services Director may be needed for review and planning. Typically, you can expect an enrollment confirmation within three weeks.
